vote on 2010

If you can only pick the best candidate from their political ads...
I will vote for
Manny Villar.

I like the catchy beat, makes me want to sway my head while singing it (kid's voice).

Hence, reading comments and feedbacks and biographies...
I am looking at specific people to consider.. like
Gilbert 'Gibo' Teodoro.

I heard a lot of good things about him yet I'm sorry,
I'm not particularly familiar about the guy.

Need to research more to know him though.

but right now, I am thinking of Richard 'Dick" Gordon
and after checking his site and reading this..
if this is true beyond belief, 'the man' has my vote! He had me at 'be'! :D

10 Principles for Success in 2010

Asked how ordinary Filipinos can improve their lot in life, Sen. Dick Gordon, who has enjoyed a fruitful and accomplished life, shares his key principles for career and financial success:

1. Be ambitious. Umaasa tayo lagi sa tulong. Kahit anong hirap mo, you have to be ambitious. Being ambitious is not negative.

2. Have the right work ethic. Bawal ang tamad. Lalong bawal ang tanga. Manage by objective. Instead of a quick fix or instant gratification, practice delayed gratification. We should go for meritocracy. Hindi palakasan. Palakasan pa rin dito.

3. Learn a skill. Poverty is an absence of choice. That’s why you have to continue learning. You have to learn a skill. I never tell people “good luck.” I always tell them “good skill.” Be creative. Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa. God gave you skills. God will not help you if you don’t help yourself.

4. Work, save, invest, and prosper. You have to work. Address your needs but always save. Get into a business. Get life insurance or a personal accident insurance kung `yun lang ang kaya mo. We need a provident fund especially for our OFWs. We have 11 million Filipinos abroad. You put them and our people here in a provident fund, we can prosper ourselves. Combine GSIS and SSS funds and come up with a provident fund, just like what Singapore did. People have to learn to save something.

5. Help. Find extra time to help. Volunteer with the Red Cross. Kapag alam mong ginawa mo, bibiyaan ka. Helping others is a reward in itself.

6. Lead by example. The Philippines would improve if it elects a leader who can inspire, able to communicate by word and deed, provides a vision, extracts values, and displays integrity. Demand from your leaders. Ask for their qualifications. Look for their record.

7. Be independent. I had to fight big guys but I couldn’t tell my dad. He encouraged me to learn judo to protect myself. You have to learn to survive. You have to learn to stand your ground. Those guys who tried to bully me, I stood up to them.

8. Learn from your mistakes. I learn from my mistakes. I learn from other people’s mistakes. There’s only one thing I can never learn: to be overly materialistic. I don’t pay the media to cover me. I don’t pay for my press releases. If my being straightforward is a mistake, that’s a mistake I’ll keep on repeating.

9. Be assertive. We’re like makahiyas. We shouldn’t be. We shouldn’t be an adapting culture. We’re resilient but we don’t assert ourselves. We’re a happy people. That’s good psychology. We laugh at ourselves. We’re an accommodating culture. We shouldn’t be. We should live by the national anthem, by our oath.

Make fear your friend. During the Mt. Pinatubo eruption, I told myself we’re not going to allow ourselves to die here. I prayed, “If you’re going to take me, take me. Please though, don’t make me look bad as I lead.” You must make fear your friend.

My POV..

as a Filipina born during the Martial Law years. I grew up with Ninoy and Cory Aquino on my shirt and posing with the Laban sign on every picture. I danced with my sister after my dad had his campaign speech on a Barangay election, issued sedula and Brgy. clearance during afternoon siesta. I stood at a corner street and gave away liflets with my father's photo and name as he ran for vice-mayor. I waited for a big empty feast after my dad lost his recount appeal. I packed food for volunteers and poll watchers few years next. The Brgy hall was my hangout place every weekends, meeting de abanse and parades were one of the events i would be seen present. Provincial Capitol was my detention place once I was grounded. Different faces every morning having coffee at home, different voices calling at the gate asking for every kind of help at any god-forbidden time, different hands you shake at one place to another letting you feel they knew you thoroughly. The food, money, car even holidays and bedtime hours were never private properties to consider. The friends who became enemies who became friends again. The truth that became an issue that ended as a gossip. The drama of it all..

Yes indeed, i am a politician's kid and I grew up seeing the multi-layers of politics. Yet I don't think it is a mandatory just for me to think about all these. We all have the responsibility, we all have the right to vote for we are a free man in need of a free country.

(ehem..nice speech bah?)

Vote for me!!!! :D

post Christmas story

the cast:
......wifey.............. hubby................ ninong.............ninang......

wifey and ninang chatting (online) about the christmas plans..

ninang: i still have a lot of gifts to buy!!!
wifey: me too!!! i'm so stressed! i need to buy hubby another gift for our anniversary on the 29th.
ninang: oh really? i just bought a perfume downstairs.
wifey: really?? what kind of perfume?
ninang: they have all sorts of perfume but the ck brands are off by 50% discount.
wifey: really?!!! hubby loves ck one! can you check if it's available?
ninang: okay. i'll go down the lobby later then will call you.

later...

ninang called wifey over the phone: i'm right here at the store. what do you want the 100ml or the 50?
wifey: the 50? until when will he be able to finish the whole 100 ml bottle, right?
ninang: hihihi..right. i'll buy?
wifey: yes please. thanks.

much later...(online)
hubby to ninang: hey..you busy? i need to buy one more gift for wifey. it's our anniversary soon.
ninang: oh...(here they go again) when is it? (like i didn't know.)
hubby: er...i don't really remember the exact date.
ninang: men..hehe..okay, what's on your mind.
hubby: where is the best place to buy perfume?
ninang: er...tangs at orchard?
hubby: yeah, just what i'm thinking..so are you free later?
ninang: i'll meet you to get the gift and keep it til christmas eve?
hubby: heheheheh..right.
ninang: sure. i'll be going orchard anyway.
hubby: i'm thinking, what if i'll give the perfume this christmas then the jaw dropping gift (which is the lacoste bag) on our anniv?
ninang: huh..no?
hubby: why not? i think it's better.
ninang: (think fast!!!) listen to me, personally(nyer), my advice is that you stick to the original plan. give the bag on christmas. then the perfume on your anniv...it's better! believe me!
hubby: hmmm..oh, okay.
ninang: good(hay)

ninang took home the two gifts together that night and on the night before Christmas gave the gift for wifey to hubby secretly (when wifey was in the room) then hid the other gift for hubby in wifey's bag when no one was looking. on Christmas day, after the food was eaten, the gifts were opened and the funny stories were told, ninang left wifey and hubby's place with ninong..
ninang: laughs
ninong: what?
ninang: those two were pretty crazy.
ninong: (laughs) yeah, they didn't really know til last night that they made the same ploy to one another.
ninang: and they don't know that they're doing the same for next week.
ninong: huh?
ninang: it's their anniversary. i just gave both gifts secretly.
ninong: haha
ninang: you know what's funny. they'll receive the same gift from each other. both are giving the other perfume.
ninong: haha..might be time for them to smell better i guess.
